We only built this for iPhone. I suspect a similar RC network would be needed for Android phones to sense when a mic is properly connected. At a minimum you'd need a 4-conductor barrel, of course. And there's the problem that you have a multitude of manufacturers building anrdoid products - do they adhere to the spec or not? With iPhone, there's only one product and one OS. I did brief hunt for a schematic for 'droids didn't turn anything up. That's what inspired my posting about making a connector for iPhone - there just weren't any good "how-tos" I could find.

Hi, i'm looking to build a few of these for the above mentioned project but will be fixing it to an Android based mobile, i don't suppose you had a chance to test the set up on one, or did you just run the iPhone?

Just curious as to whether the Android OS will detect the attachment as you mentioned the iPhone does or if additional tinkering may be necessary?

cheers!

[...] I’ve been collecting a good deal of data about the Barclays cycle hire bikes using a great little API, which has taken a lot of the pain out of screen scraping the Boris Bikes website. I’ve got several Mb of data now and have got to where I can start to do plots over time. Mapping coloured circles to the number of bikes available has given me a nice little visualisation of the distribution of bikes over the course of the day. I’ll be talking about the project at sameAs on 28 March, showing a video and of course demoing the ambient display. [...]

Better yet you should do a post of 3 reasons why you think my understanding of visual communication sucks. It's easy to just sit back at spit complaints - much harder to justify your position.

Thanks for this tutorial. I wasn't able to get it to work though. The instructions here (possibly combined with yours) was what got the sketch to finally work. The other thing is that for Processing 1.0 the libraries folder is located at user-->Documents-->Processing-->libraries

Hope this helps...
